Overview: Horizon Farm Credit is actively seeking an Accounting Specialist to join our Finance team. Qualified candidate will work in the Westminster, MD office location. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule after 6 months of successful employment. Our ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, analytical professional with experience in wire processing, cash management, and general ledger accounting. While the role includes a variety of accounting support tasks, wire processing will be your core focus, with other responsibilities performed as needed.
Posting Description: You’ll be responsible for processing and reviewing wire transactions, managing ACH and cash accounts, and supporting journal entries and reconciliations. Areas of Responsibility:
Primary Responsibility – Wire Processing:
- Review and validate wire requests and documentation
- Perform callbacks for third-party recipients
- Key transactions in GFX and monitor for accuracy
- Investigate and resolve rejected or returned wires.
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Cash Management: Set up and review ACH accounts, research returned transactions, perform due diligence on outstanding checks, and reconcile loan systems, banking, and GL reports daily.
- Accounting Operations: Process journal entries and general ledger transactions, prepare account reconciliations, and ensure compliance with documentation and procedures.
- Assist with accounts payable, fixed asset management, and other administrative tasks as needed.
- Compliance & Controls: Follow internal controls and procedures, maintain up-to-date documentation, and support fraud detection and risk mitigation efforts.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams to resolve issues, improve processes, and support the overall success of the Finance department.
Education
Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in Business Administration or a related field.
Experience
Generally, 2–4 years of experience in wire transfers, banking, or related financial operations is preferred.
Preferences
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to initiate, organize, and prioritize work required.
- Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Must possess basic analytical skills that are inherently necessary in an accounting/financial environment.
- Adaptable and flexible to a changing work environment.
- Ability to travel to/from other branch offices, customer meetings, etc., as deemed necessary.
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds and sit at a desk for extended periods.
- Regular, predictable, and reliable attendance is required.

Salary range: $50,500 – $60,000 depending on experience. Opportunity to earn additional annual bonus incentive.
