Position Description:
We are searching for a Database Administrator. This position supports the development, maintenance, and enforcement of sound data administration procedures and standards that ensure data integrity, performance, and security. Assists in the ongoing administration and optimization of databases across various platforms. Works under the guidance of senior database administrators and technical leads to perform database-related functions supporting Farm Credit Bank of Texas’ operations.
Day-to Day-Duties and Responsibilities:
– Assists in administering and monitoring database security for both data and programs. Help configure user access and login accounts within production environments.
– Supports the monitoring of SQL Server environments to ensure security and performance. Aler ts senior team members of issues and contributes to problem resolution.
– Works closely with analysts and developers to help define database design needs during development and integration projects.
– Participates in database maintenance, backup and recovery processes, and applies patches and updates as directed.
– Performs basic capacity and performance monitoring for SQL databases; escalates concerns and participates in recommending improvements.
– Assists with the installation and configuration of SQL servers in development and production environments under guidance from senior DBAs.
– Supports the maintenance of Microsoft Terminal Servers and related applications as assigned.
– Helps enforce department standards, data handling policies, and internal control procedures to maintain database integrity and availability.
– Completes data file maintenance and general support requests from users.
– Ensures compliance with established deve lopment and documentation procedures.
Skill Requirements:
– Understanding of data processing principles, database structures, and structured query language (SQL).
– Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server, and relational database theory.
– Basic knowledge of database performance tuning and security best practices.
– Ability to work independently on routine tasks and collaborate with senior team members for more complex issues.
– Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Requirements:
– Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or similar Microsoft SQL Server certifications.
– Experience supporting databases in both on-premise and cloud (e.g., Azure SQL Database) environments.
– Exposure to MongoDB or other non-relational databases is helpful
– Familiarity with scripting and automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, T-SQL, or Bash).
– Familiarity with APM tools such as Dynatrace.
– E xperience working in a financial services or regulated industry.
– Knowledge of database monitoring tools (e.g., Redgate, SolarWinds DPA, or SQL Sentry).
– Exposure to monitoring and observability tools such as Grafana.
– Understanding of disaster recovery and high availability configurations (e.g., Always On Availability Groups, Log Shipping, Replication).
– Prior experience with version control systems and/or change management tools.
– Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot moderately complex database performance issues.

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, business, or equivalent experience. Ex perience with change management tools in Windows and Linux environments. Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and associated security practices. Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of software development or technical experience, including two (2) or more years in database administration or similar technical support roles.
