Job Description
The Director of Underwriting is responsible for the management and leadership of the Underwriting team, providing input and support to the Chief Credit Officer to establish and implement highly effective and efficient credit underwriting procedures.
The Director of Underwriting provides support to the Underwriting team to establish and implement a highly effective and efficient loan underwriting workflow, ensuring quick turnaround times to deliver exceptional customer experience. The Director of Underwriting promotes open and constructive communications with the Business Development team and other departments; provides input on policy and procedures as they relate to the underwriting function, legal requirements, compliance, and internal control; provides leadership in pipeline management, report monitoring, and staff development for the Underwriting team; and provides capacity as needed to support all areas of Loan Operations and Lending.
Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, economics, finance, agriculture or other related field or equivalent experience
Generally, seven or more years of underwriting and/or commercial lending experience is preferred.
Self-starter, organized, detail-oriented, dynamic, innovative and quality/solution focused
Knowledge of computer software applications, which may include but are not limited to: Adobe, MS Excel, MS Word, CRM, Sharepoint, Citrix applications
Adaptable and flexible to a changing work environment
Possess strong problem-solving, written and verbal communication skills
Willingness to be collaborative and ability to work in a team atmosphere
Outstanding leadership skills and a strong commitment to customer service
Overall knowledge and willingness to continually study Southwest Georgia, AgFirst, and FCA policy and procedures manuals. Strong understanding of legal terms, compliance and regulatory issues affecting loan documentation.
Ability to be assertive and decisive in arriving at sound business decisions which serve the best interest of the Association and borrower
May require work beyond normally scheduled (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) hours with little or no advance notice to meet the Association’s overall mission, goals, and objectives
Travel to/from other branch offices, Associations, AgFirst, or other facilities as deemed necessary
