*One position available, qualified candidate may work in the Denton, MD, Westminster, MD or Mechanicsburg, PA branch location.
POSITION SUMMARY: Assists external affairs department in providing leadership & mentoring in association legislative and public affair activities and programs. Works with SVP of External Affairs to coordinate Association participation in various local, state and federal programs and works with Association leadership to support and/or develop new programs.
Areas of responsibility include:
- Researches and monitors government activities that could affect the Association and its members.
- Builds and maintains professional relationships with members of federal, state, and local government entities and agencies.
- Prepares, reviews, and edits updates for internal/external communications.
- Coordinates efforts within the Farm Credit System at the regional, District, and national level.
- Collaborates with industry advocates to build areas of common interest.
- Other duties and special projects as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Agriculture, Political Science or equivalent experience.
- Three or more years of experience in legislative and public affairs or an advanced understanding of legislative process.
- Exemplary written and verbal communication skills, in combination with demonstrated ability to employ diplomacy and tact with agricultural and community leaders, legislators, customers and prospects while articulating the benefits of Farm Credit.
- Current awareness of economic developments and production technology affecting agriculture in the region.
- Awareness of legislative and regulatory issues affecting the Association and its members.
- Ability to identify and effectively participate in programs and strategic alliances that benefit the Association and its members.
- Agricultural background with related practical experience preferred.
