Overview

Horizon Farm Credit is actively seeking an experienced project manager to join our Project Management team. Qualified candidate may work in any available Horizon Farm Credit branch. Our ideal candidate is an experienced project management professional with a strong background in Enterprise Risk Management (ERM). You will play a key role in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risk across the project portfolio, while also contributing to the organization’s broader risk strategy. This role bridges project execution with strategic risk insight, ensuring that risk-informed decisions are embedded throughout the project lifecycle. This role supports the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework identification process to help the PMO better understand, own, a nd identify risks from an association-wide perspective.

Position Description: In this position, you will ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and within scope. You will work with project sponsors and project team members to plan, organize, and execute projects successfully. In this position, you will ensure accountability to achieve project results, leveraging a standard and repeatable process and tools, and by coaching and leading project teams. You will also serve as a key liaison between the Project Management Office (PMO) and the Enterprise Risk Management function, helping to align project outcomes with the organization’s risk appetite and strategic goals.

Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:

  • Working with project sponsors to scope project and complete project and change management plans.
  • Coordinate internal and external resources to execute projects.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Track and monitor project progress and keep projects on track via assigned project resources. Hold project teams accountable for progress, results, and schedule.
  • Routinely report on project progress.
  • Leverage consistent tools and templates to manage projects.
  • Provide project leadership for the project team by motivating team members to meet project goals and project milestones.
  • Ensures the project team is aligned to and directly supports the achievement of strategic objectives
  • Develop and manage all aspects of projects and programs from planning, communication, stakeholder, change, risks, and issues.
  • Integrate risk identification and mitigation strategies into all phases of project planning and execution.
  • Collaborate with the ERM team to ensure project risks are escalated and addressed in accordance with the organization’s risk governance framework.

Education:

Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Economics, Finance, or related field.

Experience:

Generally, 5 or more years of previous experience working on Association or department-wide projects. Experience in implementing projects in the Financial Industry is preferred. Candidates should have a proven track record of successfully executing projects within the financial sector. This includes familiarity with regulatory requirements, financial products, and industry-specific challenges. Experience working within or alongside an Enterprise Risk Management function is highly desirable.

Requirements

  • Proactively identify emerging risks on projects, such as strategic, operational, financial, compliance/legal, reputational, technological, etc.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to identify and mitigate risks, escalating where needed.
  • Partner with project leaders to ensure alignment and accountability throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Document project risks, responses, and mitigating strategies as part of the project register.
  • Support the ERM framework identification process by contributing project-level insights to inform enterprise-wide risk awareness and ownership.
  • Ability to translate complex risk concepts into actionable project strategies.
  • Identify opportunities for the PMO to enhance its role in risk identification and management across the association.
  • Mentor junior project managers to contribute to the continuous improvement of the PMO standards, tools, and processes.

Skills:

  • Experience managing a complex project portfolio. Candidate should have experience managing a diverse and intricate portfolio of projects, with timelines spanning several years.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle long-term planning, resource allocation, and risk management.
  • Proficiency in Risk Management. Ideal candidates should possess strong risk management skills, including the ability to identify, assess, and mitigate potential risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Understanding of project management principles, methods, and techniques.
  • Experience leading, motivating, and managing various project team sizes, and internal and external resources, while holding the team accountable for performance.
  • Experience influencing and gaining buy-in from executive sponsors, project team members, stakeholders, and peers.
  • Interpersonal skills to influence change within a cross-functional environment.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail and ability to synthesize information from various sources.
  • Proficient interpersonal relations and communication skills.
  • Adaptable and flexible to a changing work environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and efficiently with a high degree of accuracy to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work well in a team atmosphere.
  • Ability to initiate, organize, and prioritize work required.
  • Ability to travel to/from other branch offices, as deemed necessary.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Regular, predictable, and reliable attendance is required.

Salary Range: $86,600 – $119,200, depending on previous experience. Opportunity to earn additional annual bonus incentive.
