Description/Job Summary
The Senior Credit Officer underwrites and approves/denies traditional, large, complex, agribusiness and commercial loans by partnering with loan officers to provide comprehensive credit underwriting.
The preferred location for the Senior Credit Officer role is Mahomet, Illinois; however, other locations may be considered.

Responsibilities/Duties
- Apply underwriting principles using the 5 C’s (character, capacity, capital, collateral, conditions) to assess creditworthiness.
- Perform financial projections and ratio analysis to ensure compliance with lending standards or identify offsetting assets.
- Evaluate risk exposure through risk rating and loss-given-default assignments; determine eligibility and financing scope.
- Prepare detailed credit narratives highlighting trends, strengths, weaknesses, and adherence to lending standards.
- Conduct comprehensive credit analysis by reviewing loan applications, verifying data accuracy, and adjusting financials for asset values and debt.
- Assign loan covenants and develop servicing plans, including handling Troubled Debt Restructures (TDR).
- Provide credit expertise and training to loan officers, branch staff, and occasionally large audiences; assist with approvals within delegated authority.
- Participate in Loan Committees to review, structure, and approve or deny loans based on risk-benefit analysis.
- Monitor industry trends and macroeconomic forecasts to assess potential impacts on underwriting and portfolio risk.
- Ensure data security and confidentiality for association systems and client information.
Required Skills
- Expert knowledge of credit analysis and regulatory requirements
- Oral and written communication skills, sufficient to exchange information effectively with peers, leaders, and customers
- Skill in balancing logic and intuition to make sound decisions in a timely manner
- Skill in differentiating significant and insignificant details
- Working knowledge of Excel sufficient to create, update and save a variety of documents
- General knowledge of production agriculture
- General knowledge of finance and macroeconomics
- Skill in utilizing technology to increase efficiency
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in finance, agriculture, business or related field
5 years of related experience in credit analysis or underwriting
Or equivalent education, experience, and skillset sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
