The Senior Vice President & Chief Financial Officer provides organizational leadership as a member of the senior leadership team with direct oversight for the association’s corporate accounting, cash management, financial analysis and reporting, capital planning, funding and liquidity, budget, and business planning functions.

Responsibilities/Duties

Executive Leadership

  • Serves as a member of the internal senior leadership team, Strategy Committee, by:
    • Providing executive leadership and direction to the organizational strategic planning process and innovation activities ensuring organizational focus and alignment for successful execution
    • Demonstrating initiative to anticipate, plan, organize, inspire, and lead Association to opportunities.
    • Serving as a role model for the association’s vision, mission, core values, and foundational and leadership competencies
    • Providing highly independent, comprehensive, and assertive leadership perspective
  • Develops a network of both external and internal relationships which enhances the Association’s image, builds connections that can assist FCI strategy initiatives, and identifies collaboration opportunities as well as creates avenues for learning and personal development
  • Serves on internal committees, as determined, including but not limited to Finance Committee, Asset Liability Committee, Allowance Committee, and ICFR Committee (as ICFR executive sponsor)
  • Serves on external committees, as determined, including but not limited to AgriBank District CFO Advisory Workgroup, AgriBank District ALCO Advisory Workgroup, FPI Team Finance
  • Is or becomes known nationally in the Farm Credit System as a resource and expert, participating in System workgroups as needed

Functional Leadership

  • Sets strategic direction and monitors ongoing activities and initiatives of the functional business areas under his/her direct supervision
  • Oversees the accuracy and timeliness of GAAP compliant financial reporting to stockholders, Farm Credit Administration, AgriBank, Board of Directors, and management
  • Serves as chair of the internal Finance Committee, which includes:
    • Responsibility for the development of the budget and business plan
    • Responsibility for the development and monitoring of the capital plan
  • Serves as chair of the internal Asset Liability Committee, which includes:
    • Responsibility for managing and reporting on funding and liquidity, including compliance with the General Financing Agreement with AgriBank
    • Responsibility for managing and reporting on earnings management, including oversight for loan pricing in coordination with all business segments
    • Responsibility for managing and reporting on interest rate risk and earnings risk
  • Coordinates and develops ad hoc reporting and analysis for senior leadership team and the Board
  • Develops, implements, and monitors policies and procedures to ensure financial operations are conducted properly
  • Serves as control owner, and risk owner, where applicable

Supervision and Team Development

  • Provides supervision and management to business functions under direct supervision by:
    • Recruiting, selecting, developing, motivating, empowering, and evaluating Team Leads
    • Directing and motivating team members towards objectives by establishing performance standards and by measuring performance against standards
    • Providing performance feedback and rewarding team members for performance in a timely manner
    • Coaching and counseling team leaders for optimal performance
    • Assisting team members in creating ongoing career development plans to fulfill opportunities throughout the association and plan for succession
    • Providing guidance to team leaders to address any personnel issues

Data Security and Confidentiality

  • Appropriately protects the confidentiality, security, and integrity of the Association’s systems and data and clients’ data

Required Skills

  • Expert knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and accounting practices and methods
  • Ability to obtain expert knowledge of District and Association policies and procedures
  • Working knowledge of sales and marketing best practices
  • Working knowledge of agri-business
  • Ability to obtain working knowledge of the Farm Credit Act and FCA Regulations
  • Working knowledge of applicable laws
  • Working knowledge of IRS Regulations
  • Working knowledge of financial markets and their influence
  • Skill in identifying key issues and relationships relevant to achieving long range goals or vision
  • Skill in applying processes and procedures to factual data to make a logical decision
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining relationships with a variety of internal and external organizations and individuals to advance the organization’s interests and increase personal efficacy

  • Skill in developing and implementing accounting/financial policies and procedures
  • Skill in analyzing complex financial data by using logic and quantitative reasoning

  • Oral and written communication skills sufficient to discuss a variety of job-related topics, and to effectively communicate complex topics to a variety of audiences

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field and 15 years of progressive experience in financial accounting, including 5 years of supervisory responsibility;
Certified Public Accountant Certification
Or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and skillset sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job
