WASHINGTON, D.C. — Farm Credit Council President and CEO Christy Seyfert made the following statement applauding the passage of bipartisan House and Senate resolutions celebrating the designation of 2026 as “International Year of the Woman Farmer.”
“Farm Credit is proud to support and uplift the female farmers and ranchers who work tirelessly to provide the important food, fuel and fiber used every day,” said Seyfert. “We thank Senators Fischer and Klobuchar, and Representatives Hinson and Pingree, for introducing this resolution that ensures recognition of these women and leverages the International Year of the Woman Farmer as an opportunity to amplify their stories and spotlight their contributions. At Farm Credit, we plan to capitalize on this key moment to invest in the growth of our female members while sharing their stories of leadership, tenacity, and commitment to land and community.”
In celebration of the International Year of the Woman Farmer, Farm Credit Council has announced an initiative to provide leadership development training to women leaders across the Farm Credit System: Advancing Women in Agriculture through Resilience & Distinction (AWARD). Participants will take part in a groundbreaking leadership experience at Gettysburg in the summer of 2026. Each of the 55 Farm Credit Associations and four banks, representing all 50 states and Puerto Rico, have been invited to nominate one female leader for this distinguished honor.
The AWARD experience will take place August 31 – September 4, 2026, on the historic grounds of Gettysburg, a fitting place to reflect on courage and influence in times of change.
