Washington, D.C. – Farm Credit Council CEO Todd Van Hoose joined leaders from other farm and rural-focused organizations today in a meeting at the White House with key staff from the President’s National Economic Council.
The meeting follows the letter that Farm Credit and more than 200 organizations sent to President Donald J. Trump encouraging him to focus on rural infrastructure and #RebuildRural.
“We are grateful that the White House is exploring the unique infrastructure needs of U.S. agriculture and rural communities. Rural communities rely on clean water, affordable power and broadband internet to attract new jobs and provide a good quality of life. Our agricultural competitiveness requires upgrades in transportation infrastructure to get supplies to farmers and to move farm products to markets around the U.S. and overseas,” said Van Hoose. “This coalition of more than 200 organizations came together because the needs of rural America are great and differ from urban projects. We look forward to working together with the Trump Administration and Congress on behalf of rural communities and agriculture.”
Joining Van Hoose at the meeting were leaders from the American Farm Bureau Federation, National Council of Farmer Cooperatives, National Grain and Feed Association, National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, National Rural Water Association and NTCA – The Rural Broadband Association.
Earlier today, the House Agriculture Committee’s Subcommittee on Commodity Exchanges, Energy and Credit held a hearing on rural development. The #RebuildRural letter was submitted for the record.
