Farm Credit supports the Next Generation in Ag

Supporting the next generation entering the field of agriculture is a vital part of Farm Credit’s mission. Through long-standing partnerships with organizations like Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS) Farm Credit continues to invest in the next generation of agricultural leaders.

For a decade, Farm Credit has offered the VIP Scholars Program, an elite program awarded annually to 25-30 outstanding MANRRS students. Each scholar receives a $1,000 academic scholarship, full travel support to attend the National MANRRS Conference, and exclusive access to the Farm Credit VIP Scholars professional development programming.

This programming connects students with Farm Credit leaders and exposes them to career paths in finance, credit, capital markets, IT, marketing, HR, and more. Participants engage in personalized CliftonStrengths assessments, business etiquette training, and formal networking events – all designed to strengthen their professional confidence.

Farm Credit’s commitment to the next generation doesn’t stop there. The Launching Leaders program supports industry inclusiveness by offering a $3,500 stipend, on top of wages, to Farm Credit interns who are HBCU students or active MANRRS members. This stipend helps offset relocation or travel costs, ensuring all students can pursue internships and gain meaningful, career-building experience.

Employment Pipeline from MANRRS to Farm Credit Internships

This summer, three of the 2025 VIP Scholars will take the next step in their professional careers by serving as Launching Leaders interns at Farm Credit institutions; a perfect example of how these two programs operate in tandem to support the next generation, from leadership development to real-world experience.

Jirah Perrymond
Summer Internship: AgSouth Farm Credit
University: Fort Valley State University
Major: Bachelor of Science in Agriculture/ Animal Science
How do you see yourself contributing to the agriculture industry as a future professional?
I want to dedicate my work to helping solve issues within agriculture that not only affect me as a human but affect animals and environments that resonate with my upbringing. With this mindset involved, contributing to agriculture is not only a job but a way of life.

PJ Crocker
Summer Internship: American Ag Credit
University: California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo
Major: Agricultural Business
How do you see yourself contributing to the agriculture industry as a future professional?
My vision is to serve as a trusted partner to producers, providing them with the financial insights and strategic guidance they need to navigate the complexities of today’s ever-evolving agricultural landscape.

Amani Hill
Summer Internship: Farm Credit East
University: Rutgers University
Major: Animal Science – Equine and Production Animal Science Track
How do you see yourself contributing to the agriculture industry as a future professional?
My interests align with the Farm Credit’s mission to support rural communities because I, myself, was born and raised in a rural community that relied on local bodegas or “corner stores” for groceries. At times, buying foods that were highly processed and low in nutrients was more attainable than buying fresh fruits and vegetables.
