For Jay and Joanna Bell, their dream of owning a vineyard included having something to leave behind for the next generation.
Jay and Joanna Bell have a passion for wine. In 2011, they decided to buy some property and turn their dream of owning a vineyard into a reality. The land was not in the best of shape, but with their determination and enthusiasm, anything was possible.
Making dreams a reality
Jay had worked with Farm Credit on previous projects and decided to expand this relationship, choosing Horizon Farm Credit as his lender for the vineyard. As Jay recalls, “Horizon was able to work with us and get us financing for this property that not too many traditional banks were able to do.”
The Bells have worked alongside their loan officer, simultaneously dreaming up new ideas and planning out the subsequent business logistics, since the beginning. “Having someone who listens, who is able see the dream and look a past what is on paper, Horizon has been able to do that. We’ve been fortunate to be able to have that relationship with them” said Jay.
More than just wine
The vineyard is about more than just making wine. Jay hopes that the property provides people a space to relax and to celebrate. “I want people to come out here and just have a great time. Whether that’s sitting out and enjoying some of our wine in our tasting room, or sitting around the fire and listening to some music.”
It is also a joyful place for the whole Bell family. Jay and Joanna’s two young girls love when other kids come out to the vineyard. While their parents shop, the kids have the freedom to play and explore outside. For Jay and Joanna Bell part of their vineyard dream is to have something to leave behind for the next generation, “We wanted to build something that would potentially leave a legacy for our kids” Jay said. And that’s just what they’ve done.
