Brittingham Farms

Rooted in Heritage, Growing with Purpose

For Laura and John Brittingham, farming isn’t just what they do, it’s part of who they are. Both were raised in Delaware by farm families, deeply rooted in agricultural traditions. In 2016, they launched Brittingham Farms on land passed down through generations, driven by a vision to preserve their legacy while cultivating something innovative and enriching for their community.

That vision began with water. When John reached out to Horizon Farm Credit to finance irrigation upgrades, it marked the first step in a relationship that would soon become integral to the farm’s evolution. The addition, three center pivots not only improved yields, but also set the stage for the transformation ahead.

Cultivating Community Through Innovation

As their journey progressed, the Brittingham’s set their sights on converting a five-acre soybean field into a blooming lavender haven.

“When we decided to open the farm up to the public, we wanted to create something really unique and new on the land that was passed down to us,” Laura said.

Brittingham Farms became a local destination, where agriculture meets experience. From summer lavender walks to community workshops, the farm now offers a peaceful, sensory escape that connects people to the land and to each other.

A Partner Who Listens

For John and Laura, Horizon Farm Credit wasn’t just a lender — the cooperative became part of their team. From the very beginning, their ag relationship manager made communication easy and personal.

“We see Farm Credit as being a very reliable source of funding for us as we grow and scale this business and as we’re ready to grow and take the next step, they’re ready to assist us,” Laura said.

That level of partnership made all the difference. Whether it was expanding irrigation, working on the lavender field, or planning for future growth, the Brittingham’s knew they had support at every turn.

Thanks to the support and trust of Farm Credit, the Brittingham’s are building something lasting, not just for themselves, but for future generations of Delaware families.
