Humble Beginnings
Raised in families with immigrant roots in Portugal and the Netherlands, Darcy Vlot and her husband, Case, were taught the importance of hard work and perseverance from childhood — values that guide their family farm in California today.
Case built his business in the 1990s without financial support from his family, relying solely on his determination and long hours.
Although Darcy grew up on a dairy farm in California, she initially pursued a career in education as a school resource teacher. Her path shifted after she met her husband, and she soon joined his operation, reconnecting with her agricultural roots.
“My journey back to agriculture isn’t traditional, but it reflects the values I was raised with — hard work, family, and the opportunities my parents dreamed of when they came to this country,” Darcy said.
A Growing Operation
Today, Darcy and Case manage a diversified agricultural operation through Cross Creek Farm, Vlot Calf Ranch, Inc., and Dairyland Huller. Together, they oversee a broad portfolio that includes dairy and beef cattle, hay and forage production, almonds, pistachios, and almond hulling.
Case oversees field operations and livestock management, while Darcy leads the business strategy. As CFO, she oversees financial operations, accounting, and capital planning to ensure the family’s businesses run smoothly.
“I’m proud of my family’s history and story, and I want to keep adding chapters of determination and success to that legacy,” Darcy said “My faith in God and my children inspire me to lead with purpose and integrity.”
A Leader in Agriculture
Darcy was nominated by Yosemite Farm Credit to participate in the 2026 Farm Credit AWARD Program, a leadership initiative created in celebration of the International Year of the Woman Farmer. For Darcy, the recognition is both humbling and deeply meaningful. She describes the AWARD acronym — Advancing Women in Agriculture through Resilience & Distinction — as a reflection of the values she aims to embody.
As a woman in agriculture, Darcy manages the demands of multiple businesses while still being fully present for her family.
“I’ve learned there’s no such thing as balance, but I do believe in harmony. When the different parts of my life can coexist harmoniously, my soul is at peace and I’m more productive in my daily duties.”
Darcy hopes to leave a legacy defined by leadership, authenticity and integrity. She encourages her daughters, and other woman in agriculture, to honor each role they carry, invest in their communities, and lead with confidence.
