Hodges Livestock

A Shared Purpose

Hodges Livestock, home to Royal White hair sheep, commercial goats, and cattle, is Kade and Morgan Hodges’ shared life purpose.

“My family began ranching here in 1889,” said Kade. “We’re just so fortunate to live this way of life. We wake up every morning knowing we get to do what we love.”

That legacy took an important step forward when Morgan made the decision to leave her town job and join the ranch full-time, a turning point that required both courage and capital.

“We knew in order to do this, we’d need to borrow capital,” Morgan said. “That’s when our partnership with Capital Farm Credit began. We worked with Randy Dupree to put together our first operating loan, and that was the beginning of us both being fully employed by the ranch.”

A Lender that Cares

With support from Capital Farm Credit, the Hodges have continued to build their operation and were named one of two winners of the Grow Your AgriRoots contest, an initiative that recognizes and invests in young and beginning producers across Texas.

“Being named a winner was an exceptional experience,” Morgan said. “It’s not just an investment financially into our business, but it was an investment into the personal growth and development of our business as well.”

For the Hodges, the cooperative model has also been key to their sense of community and shared purpose.

“Being a member of this cooperative is so much more than receiving a patronage check during the year,” Morgan said. “It’s about standing alongside other farmers, ranchers, and agriculturists. We’re all in this together. And together, we’re better.”
