From Generation to Generation
For Jacob Amsler, farming isn’t just a profession—it’s a legacy, a passion instilled in him from a young age. Raised in the small farming town of Arbuckle, California, Jacob is a fourth-generation farmer who has spent his life learning the craft from his father. His early memories are filled with the lessons of hard work, integrity, and the satisfaction that comes from building something with your own hands.
“My dad taught me almost everything I know,” Jacob reflects. “There’s something meaningful about doing things right, making it yourself, and standing behind your work.”
After attending Pierce High School, Jacob furthered his education at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he earned a degree in Agriculture Systems Management. Returning home to Arbuckle, he faced a moment of uncertainty—wondering if farming was a viable future for him. But the calling of the land was strong, and when the opportunity arose to pursue farming, Jacob knew he had to take the leap.
Jacob Amsler’s Path to Farming
In the early stages of his career, Jacob found invaluable support through Colusa-Glenn Farm Credit’s Young, Beginning, and Small (YBS) program. He speaks with optimism about the future, crediting the program for helping him develop a practical budget without cutting corners.
The YBS program provided crucial assistance, especially during the challenging first year of managing his newly purchased almond farm.
“Getting started can feel daunting, especially when you’re young,” Jacob said. “But programs like YBS from Colusa-Glenn Farm Credit give you the tools and confidence you need to take that step.”
Farming for Generations to Come
Today, Jacob owns 33 acres of almonds after just one year of farming. He looks forward to continuing his family’s proud farming tradition. More than just a business, Jacob sees farming as a way to build a lasting legacy.
“My family, especially my dad, is well-respected in the community. I want to continue that, to have something to pass down to future generations,” he said.

At just 25 years old, he is building a future rooted in the rich agricultural heritage of Colusa County, with the support of Colusa-Glenn Farm Credit, all while inspiring the next generation of farmers to follow in his footsteps.
