Keenland Farms

“Alabama Ag Credit understands what we’re doing out here, all the way from the fish, cows and even with our agritourism, so we appreciate them.” Peter Keen

Peter Keen and his family own Keenland Farms in Gallion, Alabama. Keenland Farms is an agritourism business that also raises pumpkins, catfish for processing plants and cattle for the stockyards.

A New Idea

The idea for Keenland Farms came in 2011 when Peter went down to Mississippi to help a friend start a pumpkin patch. After returning from this trip Peter expressed to his wife that he would like to do something similar in their home community.

“When the farm came up, we thought that this would be such a great opportunity for the community to give something to them, especially this day and time,” Peter said. “We wanted people to be able to come out, enjoy being outside instead of being confined at home”

These conversations continued until 2017 when the Keen family decided to start pursuing their dream of turning their land into an agritourism destination.

“We began to see the place that we called home as so much more than that,” Peter said. “We realized what a blessing our family could be to those who might not have the opportunity to experience farm life on a regular basis.”

A Farm For All

Today, tourists and students from around their community come to Keenland Farm to learn more about agriculture. Students that take a field trip to Keenland farm get to go home with their own pumpkin and education on the production of catfish and cattle.

“Each student gets a pumpkin to go home with and a lot of kids don’t get to have that,” Peter said. “When they leave, they’re excited because they get to go home with something in their hand.”

An Understanding Lender

With the help of Alabama AgCredit, the Keen family has been able to successfully grow their business.

“Alabama Ag Credit understands what we’re doing out here, all the way from the fish, cows and even with our agritourism, so we appreciate them,” Peter said.
