“[Farm Credit] has given us the opportunity to own a piece of Texas, and do the things we love to grow our operation.” -Robby Kirkland
Kirkland Feedyard was started by Perry Kirkland in 1983 with just 600 cows. Over the course of two generations, the business grew more than 38 times its original size. Now, 35 years later, Perry’s son Robby runs the operation which handles 23,000 head of cattle.
Great Partners
“We’ve grown through the times and working with Plains Land Bank has given us the opportunity to do so,” said Robby.
The Kirklands relationship with Farm Credit began in the mid-90s when Robby finished college. He went to Plains Land Bank seeking help financing their land. “We’ve been fortunate through these years to be able to add to our farming operation and our feedlot, and that all comes from hard work and having great partners like Plains Land Bank,” Robby said.
A Piece of Texas
As a proud Texan, the farm’s location in Texas matters to him. “Plains Land Bank has given us the opportunity to own a piece of Texas, and do the things we love to grow our operation. We’re proud to own land in Texas.”
Robby wants his children to have the same chance to be Texas landowners. “Land is a legacy that we can pass along to our kids, giving them the opportunity to do what we enjoy and the life that we live,” he said.
