Matt and Erica Jennen

Through the highs and lows, “this is the life for us.”

The Jennen family farm started back in the years following World War II, when Matt Jennen’s grandfather decided he wanted to farm. Generations later, Matt still works the same land that his grandfather farmed, and he does so alongside his wife Erica, as well as his brother. Together, they raise 4,500 acres of corn, soybeans and black turtle beans in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

As the Jennen family continues to grow, the farm business has had to adapt to support their growing families. “We’ve had to be strategic on opportunities to develop a niche so that we can generate enough revenue and have enough income to support our families,” Matt said.

A Strategic Partner and Friend

AgCountry Farm Credit has stood beside the Jennens as they sought new markets. “AgCountry Farm Credit has had very competitive rates and that’s truly important to us because we’re looking at our cost of production and we don’t want it to be any higher than what it needs to be,” Matt said.

Throughout the transition, Matt has also turned to his AgCountry Farm Credit loan officer for guidance. “We really rely on him [Matt’s loan officer] for a lot of advice, and if he’s behind us on our decisions, that means a lot to us and gives us the confidence that it takes to execute our plans,” he said.

Despite the growing pains, Matt and Erica still feel strongly that “this is the life for us.”
