Initially nervous about a large farm loan, Noland McCoy found the guidance and support he needed at AgHeritage Farm Credit Services
An instilled passion
Noland McCoy farms more than 250 acres of soybeans on the land where he grew up in Scott, Arkansas. Noland’s grandparents originally stewarded the land he now cultivates, and he always dreamed of following in their footsteps.
Every February, Noland and his grandparents would find a patch of land to start a vegetable garden and produce a new crop. This annual tradition instilled a passion for farming in Noland that continued into his adult life.
“I’ve always had an interest in farming. I had always said, if I ever get an opportunity to farm, I would do it,” Noland said.
Cultivating a legacy
Noland began pursuing his dream of farming when he inherited his family’s land.
“So, I started out initially doing about 40 acres, and I was really happy with the end result. I then decided I am going to do 60 acres and it kept getting a little bit bigger,” Noland said.
As Noland has continued to cultivate more acres of land, AgHeritage Farm Credit Services has supported and worked with him every step along the way.
“My working relationship with AgHeritage is wonderful. I can’t remember exactly the year I started working with them, but I’m going to say it’s been approximately 20 years or better,” Noland said.
Noland was nervous about taking out a large farm loan, but through the guidance and support of AgHeritage Farm Credit Services, he has financed his operation and found success.
“My favorite thing about AgHeritage, particularly, is the relationship and the availability of being there for the farmer. We’re both going in the same direction, and we’re going to do what we need to do to get there,” Noland said.
The perfect retirement
Today, Noland believes his 250 acres is the perfect amount to farm as he enters retirement.
“My farm is just about the right amount, because I’ve retired and I just want to have something to get up for each day. I’ve always been one that gets up early so, my typical day on the farm starts as soon as the sun is coming through the blinds,” Noland said.
Looking forward, Noland looks forward to working alongside AgHeritage Farm Credit Services and living his dream of being a farmer.
