Ranger Cattle

Former Army Ranger Josh Eilers continues to serve his community by providing quality beef products.

Beginning Rancher

Josh Eilers is a first-generation cattle rancher in Austin, Texas. Ranger Cattle is a farm-to-table operation that raises Wagyu cattle.

“We’re a farm-to-table operation that does everything from breeding, conception, all the way to consumption, either between our own tasting room here on the ranch or 44 different restaurants in the city of Austin that we supply,” Josh said.

Wagyu cattle are a unique breed, originating in Japan. In fact, the name Wagyu simply means Japanese beef. Wagyu are known for their marbling, which gives their meat that melt-in-your-mouth texture and rich taste.

Living To Serve

Many of the leadership lessons Josh implements on his operation are lessons he took from his time in the U.S. Army. A former U.S. Army Ranger who served three tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan, Josh was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries sustained during combat.

“For five years, I was an Army Ranger and I was able to serve this country. I took an immense amount of pride in wearing that flag on my shoulder. And now, through Ranger Cattle and the help from Farm Credit, I’m able to continue to serve our community by providing a beef product that has our name and represents our brand,” Josh said.

A Trusted Lender

As a beginning farmer, Josh struggled to find financing to help him jumpstart his operation.

“No one was really interested in taking a chance on agriculture or allowing us to use the funds appropriately, but when we approached Farm Credit, they were willing to actually sit down with us and give us that opportunity, and at least go over our business plan, show us where they thought the weaknesses were,” Josh said.

With the help of Capital Farm Credit Josh has grown his operation into a successful farm-to-table operation.

“I’m proud to work with Farm Credit, and I can’t wait to see what we’re able to build together in the future,” Josh said.
