Humble Beginnings
From humble beginnings farming vegetables for their own consumption, Reeves Peach Farm’s legacy has evolved into something extraordinary. They now produce and sell a large variety of crops, with a special focus on peaches.
Mike Reeves runs the business with his sons, where they carry on a legacy that is now five generations deep. In 1950, Mike’s great-grandfather grew watermelons and sold them under the shade of oak trees to their neighbors and passersby. They soon built a fruit stand and introduced other produce, including peaches.
The Perfect Peach
Tree-ripened peaches are now their family’s trademark, and the farm continues to find opportunities to add value. This spans from ice cream to pies to salsa and more.
From May to September, they rotate different varieties of peaches. Instead of picking all the peaches at once, they will wait until they are ripe on the tree.
“When selecting peaches, we look for the right color – my dad always said to go for the biggest and reddest ones,” Reeves said.
Supporting Alabama Producers
Reeves Peach Farm partnered with Alabama Farm Credit in 2019 to expand their footprint with a new building equipped with a kitchen and restaurant.
“Alabama Farm Credit was the clear choice for our loan, providing constant support and communication throughout the process,” Reeves said. “The annual dividend from them adds to our sense of being involved in the operation, and we eagerly anticipate its return each year.”
