Richie and Molly Klimek were ready to create a home for themselves. They toyed with the idea of purchasing an old house and fixing it up, but their real dream was to build a new house on the family farm.
It would be perfect: close to home and in a position to reestablish the farm that had been part of the family since the 1890s.
First things first…
The first step was finding a person to construct the house. That was no trouble. The second step was finding someone to finance the project. That was not so easy.
Richie and Molly explored a variety of loan options at banks in town, but no one was willing to lend to a construction project. Their builder noticed the challenges they were facing and suggested they explore Horizon Farm Credit.
Finding their place
“When we sat down with Horizon, they told us ‘this is what they do’ and we just knew that we were in the right place,” Molly said.
The Klimeks had land; they had a builder; and they’d finally secured a loan. Things were looking pretty good. And then, life threw them a beautiful curve ball: a newborn baby boy.
There in good times and bad
Farm Credit didn’t flinch or bail on the project when things got complicated. Instead, Horizon was there to support Richie and Molly throughout the process. “Our life got a little chaotic, having a newborn halfway in the construction process,” Molly said. “Our loan officer was so willing to work with us and do whatever we needed, giving us multiple loan extensions. She couldn’t have made it any easier.”
Richie agreed, “It was a really easy process to work through; Horizon was a great decision.”
