Scarmardo Cattle Company

Pete Scarmardo knew that he wanted to work cattle ever since he was a boy growing up on his family’s farm in the Brazos Valley of Texas. And in 1975, Pete realized his dream by starting Scarmardo Cattle Company.

Growing pains
Pete worked with various local banks to help finance Scarmardo Cattle Company when he was first getting started. However, as his goals for his business grew, Pete felt the need to work with a lender that had a more thorough understanding of his aspirations. That’s when he found Capital Farm Credit.

“When you do business with Farm Credit, you do business with people who understand agriculture, and not just portions of it, but all of agriculture. Farm Credit enabled me to borrow more money and to do more,” he said.

Support through it all
Pete has enjoyed working with Farm Credit from the beginning. He said, “I’ve been with Farm Credit for about 35 years. They started working with me when I really needed the help, and they listened to me just as much then as they do today.”

Capital Farm Credit has stood by Pete through thick and thin, helping him to finance cattle, feed, grain and land. “It’s been a great working relationship and makes it easier for us to do business, as opposed to hindering how we operate on a daily basis,” he said.

Looking to the future
Pete and his wife Jo run the operation alongside their three sons who are all very involved in the business. Looking towards the future, Pete said, “We hope that we’re building a business and a company that our sons can all participate in, if that’s what they so desire.”
