From childhood games to home ownership, Suzanne White has spent some of the best years of her life in Mounty Holly Springs, Pennsylvania.
Horizon Farm Credit has been there to support Suzanne as she turned her landownership dreams into realities.
From the beginning
Suzanne spent childhood summers visiting her friends at their grandparent’s home in Mount Holly Springs, Pennsylvania. She has fond memories of exploring nature, playing in the woods and fishing the creek while she was there. Years later, Suzanne and her husband, Steve Blair, noticed land for sale in the same area where Suzanne had played as a child. Thinking back on all those good times she had in Mount Holly Springs, the couple decided to purchase 36 acres.
Homebuilders
Suzanne and Steve dreamed of someday building a house on the property that they purchased. They also prioritized caring for the land, planning to leave much of it untouched so that it could continue to restore itself to what Suzanne remembers from her childhood.
When they began planning to build their home, Suzanne and Steve were surprised by the amount of trouble they had finding a lender who would support them. “When we started thinking about building a home, we were surprised to find that commercial banks don’t like to lend to large properties,” Suzanne said.
Horizon was there to help
Suzanne and Steve started asking around to see who their friends had used to help with their mortgages. That’s when they heard about Horizon. Excited to learn that she may have found a lender to finance her hopes of homeownership, Suzanne called Horizon and eagerly scheduled a meeting to discuss their property and plans.
A representative from Horizon came out to their property and, sitting at the kitchen counter that first time with their loan officer, Suzanne said that she “instantly felt a connection and a bond.”
Suzanne and Steve quickly developed a relationship with Horizon and regularly contacted their loan officer with questions. “Throughout the process we would reach out and talk to our loan officer, which is a much different relationship than many often experience today,” Suzanne said. “He was always there for us, always quick to respond and always personable.”
Part of the family
Reflecting on their experience with Horizon, Suzanne has been very grateful for the personal attention she and Steve have received. She said, “We never felt that we were just a number. Family is kind of a cliché word to use, but with Horizon we felt like we were part of a family.”
