Gibbon, Nebraska

Mike and Kim Wilkens, like their farmer peers, constantly face the unknown of the weather and sometimes it brings devastating effects.

In 2014, a devastating hail storm blew through Gibbon, Nebraska, where Mike and Kim Wilkens live and farm.

Damage to everything
Not only did the storm destroy nearly 90% of Mike and Kim's crops, but it also damaged their home and their agriculture buildings.

"From damage to the house, to damage to the crops and trying to keep everything together and watching nothing growing all summer long, that was frustrating," Kim said.

Farm Credit was there to help

In the face of the storm aftermath, the Wilkens were very thankful that they had purchased crop insurance from Farm Credit Services of America (FCSAmerica).

"Our dealings with Farm Credit couldn't have been any better. They were here when we needed them and they had the adjusters out too us and walked us through everything. As devastating as it was, we couldn't have asked for a better group of people to work with," Kim said.

"The very next day, our financial officer brought us water as we were cleaning up damage. Little things like that make a big difference," Mike added.
