North River Farms

While production is important to Jason of North River Farms, so is having folks out to the farm to learn about agriculture and reconnect with nature.

Jason Davis has been farming in Mills River, North Carolina, since 1999. On their operation, North River Farms, which spans nearly 1600 acres, Jason and his wife Chae produce row crops, vegetables, forage and livestock, in addition to his agritourism endeavors.

Bridging the Gap

While production is important to Jason, so is having folks out to the farm to learn about agriculture and reconnect with nature. “We’re excited to bring people to the farm. We teach them about where their food came from as well as about our natural resource management initiative here,” Jason said.

By way of his agritourism, Jason started DB Bar D Outfitters. It offers guided and semi-guided hunting and fishing excursions in North Carolina, as well as other outdoor experiences. Jason and his team are dedicated to promoting, preserving and protecting natural resources so future generations can continue to enjoy the outdoors.

In the Good Times and Bad

AgSouth Farm Credit has been there to support Jason as he has built his business. Looking back, Jason said, “I can’t say enough good things about Farm Credit.” In 2011, North River Farms had a massive barn fire that resulted in the loss of many assets. While the losses were devastating, Jason said, “Farm Credit stood right beside us and enabled us to rebuild. We’re very grateful for the relationship that we’ve had with Farm Credit through the years.”
