WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Farm Credit Council created an internship stipend program to encourage students and recent graduates from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to join the Farm Credit System.
The Launching Leaders program offers a $3,500 stipend to any HBCU student or recent graduate who interns with a Farm Credit institution across the country. This stipend will be awarded in addition to the wages an intern receives for their work.
“We encourage HBCU students and recent graduates to spend a summer or a semester as an intern with Farm Credit and share in our mission to support rural communities and agriculture,” said Todd Van Hoose, President and CEO of the Farm Credit Council. “Internships are the gateway to a career, but they often come with a whole range of financial burdens like travel, rent and a professional wardrobe. The Launching Leaders program will help offset those costs for HBCU students. HBCU students interested in financial services, IT, marketing and more will find great career opportunities at Farm Credit.”
Farm Credit will host a job fair specifically to recruit HBCU students for internships and career opportunities in Farm Credit institutions across the country. The job fair, open to HBCU students and alumni, will be held on Thursday, October 29, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. EDT. Interested HBCU students and alumni may register at Brazen Connect.
The Launching Leaders program and HBCU job fair is part of Farm Credit’s commitment to the HBCU Partnership Challenge, a public pledge through which organizations commit to creating or deepening relationships with HBCUs with a goal of recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce from these institutions.
