Dynamic Duo
Tim and J.P. LaBrucherie are the father-son duo leading the LaBrucherie Produce operation. They are primarily vegetable growers in the winter months, producing kale, carrots, mizuna, arugula, onions and more in El Centro, California.
About 15 years ago, LaBrucherie Produce transitioned almost all of the family ground to organic farming. Now, they continue to focus on innovation for safe and sustainable food production.
Family History
Tim’s grandfather started farming when he came to California in 1899 from France, but their family’s farming history goes back even further.
“We started farming in France 500 years ago. I mean, if you go back far enough,” Tim said. Now, they’re continuing the farming legacy, transitioning from dairy to vegetables.
“My great-grandfather was a pioneer from France, and now my role is to help this keep going,” J.P. said.
The Future of Food
Food safety is a priority at LaBrucherie Produce. “When I first came here, that wasn’t in my vocabulary. Now it is at the forefront of every day for us, trying to create the safest food we can to help feed the nation in a very safe and clean way,” J.P. said.
They are particularly careful in how they water, fertilize, and manage their crops to be efficient, sustainable and safe.
A Long-standing Partnership
“We really enjoy working with AgWest Farm Credit,” J.P. said. “My father served on one of the farm credit boards for about three decades, which he’s very proud of, and we all are. It’s been a great team to work with for many decades.”
AgWest Farm Credit brings an agricultural financial perspective to help Tim and J.P. make smart borrowing decisions, through good times and bad.
“Borrow, pay it back, borrow again when you need it. That’s one of the big advantages of Farm Credit,” Tim said. AgWest Farm Credit provides a non-stop cycle of support.
