Matt Riniker grew up on the family’s grain and beef farm in Guttenberg, Iowa.
Growing up, Matt always loved being outside and helping his dad on the farm. “I’ve always enjoyed being out in the fields; nothing’s better than being outside, working long days and working with cattle,” he said. “[Farming] has always been a passion of mine.”
Further ag education
When Matt started high school, he decided to take some agriculture classes. He enjoyed those so much that he chose to continue studying agriculture in college. While he loved learning about farming and ranching in school, Matt always knew he wanted to return home and work on the farm with his dad.
Reflecting on his decisions, Matt said, “Studying agriculture is probably the best decision I’ve ever made, and I’m glad to be back home and helping Dad. I’ve enjoyed working here ever since I made the decision to come back.”
Joining the business
Once his dad, Randy, realized that Matt wanted to join the family’s operation, he had to start thinking about ways to grow the family business so it would be big enough to support another partner.
Farm Credit Services of America has been an important partner for Randy and Matt over the years. “Farm Credit has a good relationship with Dad and they’ve helped me out as beginning farmer. They are helping me get into the business, making it easier and helping me with steps along the way,” Matt said.
