When it comes to cattle, Ron Brown does it all. He runs a cow/calf operation, a stock yard and a feeding business in Kellerville, Texas.
Living the dream
“I’ve lived the dream,” he said. “Cattle ranching is something I’ve always wanted to do. It took a long time to get here, but with the help of y’all at Farm Credit, I’ve been able to do it.”
Ron has been a Capital Farm Credit customer since the 1990s. He said, “I buy land through them, I do my cattle operation and feeding operation through them. Everything goes through Farm Credit. And it’s been a fun trip so far; I got no complaints.”
Strong knowledge base
Throughout his time with Capital Farm Credit, Ron has appreciated the agricultural knowledge base that his loan officers have demonstrated. He said, “When you go into Farm Credit, you don’t have to explain what you want to do. You tell them and they understand what the process is.”
While Ron loves raising cattle, it hasn’t always been easy. From drought to market collapses, Ron has relied on support from Farm Credit to make it through the toughest of times. “Farm Credit has stayed with me through the whole deal. I probably couldn’t have done it without them. Oh, I know I couldn’t have done it without them,” he said.
Through thick and thin
Regardless of the challenges he’s faced, Farm Credit has been there to help. Ron said, “Once you get in with Farm Credit, they stand behind you. They don’t quit you when you’re in a bind or I wouldn’t be here. So, yeah, I definitely recommend them to others.”
